Foods to Avoid Packing in Your Child's Lunch Box at all Costs!
For many families, our schedules are so hectic that just making it out of the house on time in the morning is a big deal! Quick, grab and go lunches may seem easy and pretty innocent, but don’t be fooled by the marketing. These are some of the top foods to avoid feeding your child at all costs! These items are highly processed and do not contain many, if any nutrients to your growing child. Even more than what they DON’T give your child; you need to be aware of what they DO. These foods cause inflammation in your child’s body. Inflammatory load leads to
dis-ease of the immune system and in step leads to disease. Cancers, autoimmune diseases, allergies, trouble concentrating, behavioral issues, belly-aches, headaches, and asthma- just to name a few, are all fed through these types of foods being consumed by our children. Be proactive with your child’s health and remember- Prevention is the BEST medicine!!
Avoid feeding these items to your children:
Lunchables or other prepackaged meals.
Processed Sandwich Meats like “cold cuts.”
Sugary Snacks like fruit snacks.
Cookies and Cakes like Oreos, Twinkies, Devil Dogs, etc.
Dairy Products like string cheese, yogurt, or milk.
Soda, Juice, or Gatorade Organic Gatorade or juice boxes from time to time are okay! But, water or organic coconut water are better options for growing bodies!
Genetically Modified Foods (Corn, Soy, Sugar Beets, etc.! Be aware, GMO’s are in MOST packaged foods you may put into your child’s lunch box. The best way to avoid all GMO foods is to feed your child organic food!)
This does not mean that your child can never have a sweet dessert, but make good decisions on what these treats are made with. Oreos for example are made from artificial ingredients and high amounts of corn syrup; which is genetically modified! These ingredients wreak havoc inside your child’s body and several studies have shown genetically modified foods to cause Cancers and many other diseases in people of all ages!!
